It is safe to say that everyone in their life has experienced abdominal troubles at some point. Have you ever suffered from painful menstrual cycles? Mysterious lower-back pain? Unexplained bloating or digestion issues? Or maybe even you’ve experienced difficult childbirth or suffer from endometriosis or are recovering from surgery.
Our abdominal region holds most of our essential organs, yet is widely not taken care of enough. However, to get you treating your core right, Randi Kay Olsen Heinold of Naturally Randi Kay in downtown Fargo offers abdominal therapy services, specifically The Arvigo® Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy.
The common person most likely has never heard of Arvigo®, so what exactly is it? With the help of Naturally Randi Kay, we experienced the Arvigo® Maya Techniques of Abdominal Therapy ourselves.
What Does It Do?
The Arvigo® Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy was developed by Dr. Rosita Arvigo, DN. and founded on the ancient Mayan technique of abdominal massage. This technique is an external non-invasive manipulation that repositions internal organs that have shifted, thereby restricting the flow of blood, lymph, nerve and chi.
Randi Kay became tuned-into this specific practice after seeing successes in her clients she incorporated abdominal massage on. After seeing how healing abdominal massage was, she began to research further to see what continuing education she could find on it. This research lead her to a weekend training on Arvigo Mayan Massage and then to Belize to study with the practice’s founder. “Physically, we need to be nurturing these big muscles that play a vital part in our bodies. But energetically, emotionally, with aligning the organs so they operate optimally. There’s just so much going on there and it’s been neglected for too long,” she said.
How Does It Work?
The experience of an Arvigo therapy session is similar to your standard massage session. You get set up on a massage table and draped and covered properly. Randi Kay uses her own massage oils, made with medicinal plants that are meant for nurturing the abdomen and reproductive organs.
In a gentle, noninvasive way, Randi Kay massages the abdominal muscles. One of the tenets Argivo is centered around is making sure the uterus is in proper alignment. This does mean that much of the massage will be working close to the public bone, but Randi Kay values modesty and ensuring that there’s communication between herself and the client. In addition to reproductive treatment, the massage also targets the digestive tract, lower back, pelvis and sacrum.
At Naturally Randi Kay, the first session of Arvigo is an hour and a half, to account for the initial intake, treatment and then self-care education. The following sessions are one hour long.
How Does It Pamper?
The non-invasive massage techniques relieve tension in the muscles and connective tissues and coax things back into place. The practice can relieve a myriad of common issues, spanning from physical to emotional.
Because Randi Kay is trained in many other modalities, acting as a bodyworker and therapeutic yoga teacher for over 10 years now, she is able to tailor the experience per the patient’s needs. This is a personalized experience, not just a one-time pampering venture.
“The best part of Arvigo is I teach a self-care routine that you can do at home that is personalized for your condition. So it becomes more of an empowering, ongoing thing because you’re taking the healing home with you and you start cultivating that important relationship with yourself,” said Randi Kay.
Pair the ongoing inner work with the warm and welcoming space of Studio 14 1/2, and you have a practice that will go beyond just a temporary pampering but could change the way you think about self-care as a whole.
