The last Friday of each month holds something special here in Fargo. The national movement, CreativeMornings, has its own chapter here in town and brings the community together under two important things: breakfast and creative inspiration.
Creativity is the bond that CreativeMornings strives to unite the community with. While some might not think of themselves as “creative” there are actually many ways to define that word. In CreativeMornings Fargo’s own terms, “a creative life requires bravery and action, honesty and hard work.” This group sets out to encourage, celebrate and support those in our community who are going out there and doing that they love by hosting free get-togethers with engaging, local speakers.
CreativeMornings Fargo’s mastermind is Cereal Founder and former Concordia College professor Jeff Knight. Knight said, “The original idea for bringing CreativeMornings to Fargo started as a conversation between myself and Dayna Del Val from The Arts Partnership over three years ago when we wanted to provide the local arts community a platform to speak and discuss creative successes in our area.” Knight had discovered CreativeMornings talks online and thought they were good way to bring the business and arts community together. However, CreativeMornings is a national organization and only grants chapters to cities of more than 500,000 people. Knight and Del Val decided to submit an application, anyway. After a lot of research, a submitted a video application and an interview with the national organization, they were immediately granted a chapter in Fargo the day they interviewed, an impressive feat.
Community connections are strong and the connection between to people, face-to-face, person-to-person, cannot be replaced or replicated. Past speakers have included comedian and personality, J.J. Gordon, Unglued‘s Ashley Morken and Appareo‘s Dave Batcheller. November’s speaker will be professional baseball player turned photographer, Jesse Hoorelbeke, speaking about starting over in a new field.
Be sure to follow their social media platforms to stay up to date on who each month’s speaker will be and how to get tickets. But be warned, ticket registration goes fast! Knight noted, “Our first talk sold out in less than an hour and we’ve sold out of our free tickets each speaker breakfast after that.”
If this sounds up your alley and you need a boost of inspiration, or just want to be around some movers and shakers, maybe even get a high-five or two, CreativeMornings is where it’s at.
