While sitting in the Prairie Den one afternoon, co-leaders of Girl Develop It Fargo Shannon Wiedman and Megan Otto brainstormed with Fargo Game Makers leader Kyle Weik on a way for local tech meetups to branch out of their inner circle and come together for a night of networking.
“We wanted to give the community a chance tofind out what the tech meetups are up to, connect with technology professionals and learn more about all the possibilities for growing their tech skills,” Wiedman said.
After hours of deliberation, Tech Tailgate was created.
On July 16, 2015, the first Tech Tailgate event packed the Fargo Brewing Company parking lot with nine different local tech groups and over a hundred technology enthusiasts.
“The community’s response has been overwhelmingly positive,” Otto said.
Due to the vast amount of interest, the team decided to turn Tech Tailgate into an annual event. Each year, it continues to grow in the number of meetups, sponsors and attendees.
“We’ve received so much great feedback from participants, and honestly, it’s why we continue doing it,” Event Coordinator Emma Tupa said. “It gets the community talking about what all the great local tech groups are doing for the community. It also provides an opportunity for anyone interested in learning more about tech to get involved and grow their skill set.”
The third annual Tech Tailgate will be held in the ally behind Drekker Brewing Company on September 28 from 5:30 – 8 p.m. Open to the public, the free event will be a night of craft brews, pizza and nerdy tech talk with 12 local tech meetups while they showcase their group’s work and focus from the trunks of vehicles. Must be 21 or over to attend.
