The Forks
One of the biggest hubs in Manitoba, The Forks is an all-encompassing venture when in Winnipeg. It does offer outdoor adventures but in a more metropolitan environment. The Forks offers boat tours up and down the river to see the history behind Winnipeg. There is also plenty of shopping and the spectacular Canadian Museum Of Human Rights.
Portage La Prairie
Just an hour west of Winnipeg is Portage La Prairie. This settlement was originally discovered by French fur traders and it continues to be a popular tourist destination. Looking to get away with the family? Portage La Prairie offers a large water park for the kids, a golf course for dad and scenic walkways for mom.
Turtle Mountain Provincial Park
Just over the border in northern North Dakota is Turtle Mountain Provincial Park. The scenery may remind you of home, but Turtle Mountain features over 200 lakes and wetlands within it. It is also a dream for hardcore mountain bikers.
Hecla Provincial Park
Hecla Provincial Park (or Grindstone Provincial Park) was created to give adventurers more to explore. Within this series of islands near Lake Winnipeg, you will find limestone beaches, plenty of shorelines to lay out on and a scenic golf course. Do not forget to find your way to the Hecla lighthouse, a landmark within the park.
