Favorite spot in town

When I think about it, probably the Fargodome or the SHAC. I know I’m enjoying myself if I’m there

Favorite Fargo hidden treasure

B.D.S. Books on First Avenue or Books At A Fifth on 13th Avenue. The library is cool too.

What are your favorite top charity/organizations in town?

Homeward Animal Shelter and Rape And Abuse Crisis Center

Favorite local drink

Any of the local breweries can do no wrong, in my view. Anything hoppy or funky at Junkyard is probably my favorite, if I HAD to pick one.

My perfect 24 hours in Fargo

1. Coffee and toast at Young Blood.

2. Perusing vinyl across the street at Vinyl Giant. Finally find a copy of Rush’s Signals that I’ve been searching years for.

3. Chatting about the finer literary points of Dracula and Stephen King with Brad and reading/buying books at B.D.S. Books.

4. Lunch at Pounds (Pickle Fries are a must).

5. Check out the exhibits at Plains Art Museum.

6. Some sort of NDSU athletic event (basketball, football and wrestling are my personal favorites).

7. Dinner at Tru Blu in West Fargo.

8. Wind down at Junkyard, Front Street Taproom or Drekker.

What’s a feature or story you loved in Fargo Monthly in 2018?

I loved Who What Wear in the September issue. This was my first issue as editor of the magazine and I loved getting to dive in a topic I am most interested in: fashion.

What’s your top charity/organization in the area?

I got to visit Anna Lake Animal Sanctuary for a piece this year, and I love their mission. They educate the community on animal rights issues and save farm animals in need. It’s my secret dream to own my own animal sanctuary someday.

Favorite local food/drink

An Angeleno paired with avocado and microgreens toast from Young Blood.

What’s a fun weekend getaway you love?

In July I got to go to Eau Claire, WI, for the music festival, Eaux Claires. I had never even been to Wisconsin before this, and I loved getting the take in that Midwest scenery on the drive there. Plus seeing Francis and the Lights, Justin Vernon and Pussy Riot all in one place was pretty memorable.

Favorite Fargo hidden treasure

I’m properly obsessed with the obscure collection of large statues and lawn ornaments outside of The Woodchuck Furniture Restoration. Why are they there? What is their purpose? Can I buy one for my living room?

What’s an ideal date night for you?

My fiance and I love Twist. They have a full vegan menu for me and countless drink options to enjoy. The environment is nice and mature, but we don’t feel the pressure of having to dress up and get stuffy for it.

RumChata French Toast at Boiler Room or the Chicken Tortilla Soup at Blarney Stone – yummm!

Favorite weekend getaway

Last year, we visited Aberdeen, S.D., and went to Storybook Island – that was a lot of fun! I was surprised how much they had there, and it kept the kids busy for hours. My husband loves to hunt, so he had plenty of other things to do there as well!

We also love heading to any of the many lakes (typically up to Devils Lake unless we want to make a quicker trip) for some fun family fishing. We do this all year ’round. Brewer Lake is also fun to take the kids ice fishing at because there is a ton of action even if the fish aren’t huge.

Favorite event of the year

Fargo gets some wonderful concerts. We went to Bruno Mars this year and it was a lot of fun.

What’s an ideal date night for you?

Porter Creek is always nice – especially when it’s nice out and you can enjoy their back patio.

Favorite family outing

Space Aliens is our family go-to: arcade games and good food. The kids also really enjoy Yunker Farm – I love how they have rooms and activities for all ages!
