The Historical and Cultural Society of Clay County is excited to host the traveling Exhibit New Land New Life: Norwegian Immigration in Minnesota 1825-1925, which highlights the stories of the Norwegian Immigrants who moved to the Midwest from 1825-1925 in hopes of finding a better life. New Land New Life provides historical background and reasoning behind immigration and personal stories about their journey to the Midwest. In fact, out of 800,000 Norwegian immigrants coming to the United States between the years 1825-1925, one third of them stayed in Minnesota. The exhibit provides insight in where the Norwegians settled, how they adapted to their new lives, and in what ways they contributed to their communities. Some cultural artifacts important to Norwegian heritage, and excerpts from their letters home will be displayed.
The exhibit will open on October 5, and it will be on display through December 31, 2015. Doors are open Monday through Saturday, 9:00am to 5:00pm. The exhibit will be open till 8:00pm on Tuesdays and Sundays noon to 5:00pm.
