The Fargo Blues Festival wrapped up mid-August, but the blues return to town when the GRAMMY-nominated Heritage Blues Orchestra performs Thursday, Sept. 17, at 7:30 p.m. on the Hansen Theatre stage in the Roland Dille Center for the Arts on the MSUM campus.
The Heritage Blues Orchestra performs the music of juke joints, chain gangs, church pews, back porches and orchestra pits. The music encompasses country, gospel, urban blues, New Orleans style jazz, postmodern jazz and work songs from the African-American tradition. This summer the group performed in 30 cities in six different countries.
Vintage Guitar Magazine wrote: “As the band’s moniker suggests, the Heritage Blues Orchestra is dedicated to reviving and keeping alive the blues. Their repertoire is encyclopedic, a survey of blues styles from field hollers to spirituals, Delta blues to big-city Chicago electric blues. And they perform the songs with studied arrangements, yet also with alacrity and fervor.”
