Academy of Country Music Award winner and Grammy nominee, Joe Nichols, will perform live at Shooting Star Casino, Hotel and Event Center, located at 777 Casino Road in Mahnomen, Minnesota, on Friday, January 15, at 8 p.m. Tickets start at $25 and are on sale now. Nichols, born in Rogers, Arkansas, grew up watching his father play bass in a local country band. After graduating from high school, Nichols worked as a mechanic by day and DJ by night to support himself as he began to pursue a career in country music.
In 1996 at age 19, Nichols signed a record deal with Intersound and released his first self-titled album. Multiple label mergers and a couple of part-time jobs later, Nichols released his second album, “Man With a Memory,” on the new Universal South Records label in 2002. The album was certified Platinum and spawned his first two Top Five hits, “The Impossible” and “Brokenheartsville.” Landing at #3 on Billboard’s Hot Country Chart, “The Impossible” became 2003’s 10th-most played country song, and “Brokenheartsville” became Nichols’ first #1 hit.
Nichols’ follow up albums, “Revelation,” “III,” and “Real Things,” featured multiple Top 20 hits, including “She Only Smokes When She Drinks,” “What’s a Guy Gotta Do,” “Cool to Be a Fool,” “Size Matters (Someday),” and “I’ll Wait For You.” Four of Nichols’ singles have been certified Gold, including “Yeah,” “Sunny and 75,” “Tequila Makes Her Clothes Fall Off,” and “Gimme That Girl.”
Staying close to his traditional country roots has earned Nichols three Grammy nominations, the Horizon Award from the Country Music Association, and the Academy of Country Music’s Top New Male Vocalist Award.
