To spread the word and shine a very bright light on animals finding forever homes, Fargo Monthly has decided to feature cats and dogs from the various shelters and rescues in the Fargo-Moorhead area. Each month, we are sharing the stories of animals looking for loving owners. Today, we are featuring five dogs from 4 Luv of Dog Rescue, a volunteer run, non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing and rehoming dogs. Check out some of these adoptable dogs and consider bringing one (or all) home!

If you would like to provide these dogs a loving home, please fill out a pre-adoption application.

Durand

Neutered Male
Breed: Pit Bull Terrier Mix
Age: 1.5 Years
Size: Large, 73 pounds
Adoption Donation: $75 (applicable sales tax included)

Important Information: Needs to be the only pet in their adoptive home. Better around older considerate children. Moderate exercise is needed.

Foster Home Feedback:
July 14: “Durand has been at our house a few months now. He is such a big goof ball…it’s never boring with Durand around! While we joke that he is a big dopey dog, he does know sit, lay down, and will walk nicely on a leash. Durand loves laying out in the yard and enjoying the sun when we are home. He also has a few toys that he loves to run around with in the yard.

“Durand is a fairly low energy dog. Although he loves to run around the yard and go for walks, he is also ok just hanging in the house on a hot day and enjoying the air conditioning. Durand also kennels well and is quiet in his kennel. While we let him out every 4 hours or so, he could go a full 8 hour day without being let out and would be OK.

“Durand is great in public. Don’t be scared off by the ‘only dog in the home’ requirement. He can be taken to a pet store and be around other leashed dogs or to a public place and everyone will love him! He does well in public with other dogs, he just has not done well sharing his living space with another dog. We have a chain link fence, our neighbor has 2 large male dogs and he is fine with them being in their own yard. Durand loves car rides as long as he can stick his head out the window. Once you meet this guy you’ll surely fall for him!”

Marty McFly

Neutered Male
Breed: Labrador Retriever
Age: 10.5 Years
Size: Large, 73 pounds
Adoption Donation: $180 (applicable sales tax included)

Important Information: Marty McFly is good with kids and other dogs but not good with cats. He qualifies for Dog Rescue’s Seniors For Seniors Program. This program places senior dogs (age 8 or older) with senior citizens (age 65 or older) at a reduced adoption fee of $65. If you qualify and are interested in participating in this program, please fill out an application online and type “SENIOR” after your name.

Foster Home Feedback:
May 20: “Marty has been doing so well at adoption day events! While he has never been a timid or shy dog, sometimes he tends to get a little nervous in new situations and places. However, his anxiousness has never been an issue as far as his behavior. Marty isn’t phased at all around other dogs barking, kids getting close to him or at all the attention he gets by his natural good looks. He’s pretty much a dream dog when it comes to not causing a scene and going with the flow! And his tail is wagging from the moment he wakes up in the morning until he nods off to sleep at night.

“He’s still on his prescription diet dog food. That means no other treats or human food to keep his tummy happy and healthy. While Marty gets very excited and slobbery when it comes to dinner time, we always make him calm down and ‘sit’ before putting the food down for him and he does without an issue.

“Marty is pretty reliable for cuddling with you whenever you have a lap he can lay in. You have my word when I say that he will never chew up toys or things around the house when left alone, bark at the mailman or any visitor, and never show aggression towards a person or another dog. Give this sweet old man a chance to prove how loyal he can be!”

Marigold

Spayed Female
Breed: Beagle
Age: 8 Years
Size: Small, 21 pounds
Adoption Donation: $180 (applicable sales tax included)

Foster Home Feedback:
“Marigold is a sweet older gal who came to rescue with uncontrolled glaucoma. After extensive vetting and excellent care by her dedicated foster home, her glaucoma could not be controlled and her eyes needed to be removed. She navigates her surroundings well and is looking for a forever home!”

Damon

Neutered Male
Breed: Chihuahua
Age: 2.5 Years
Size: Small, 12 pounds
Adoption Donation: $160 (applicable sales tax included)

Important Information: Damon is good with older/considerate kids only.

Foster Home Feedback:
“Tiny dogs often become very attached to their ‘person’ and Damon is no exception. Meeting new people is very scary to Damon and unfortunately, he doesn’t show well at adoption events, but a patient adopter willing to give the little guy some space and time to come to trust. He absolutely will become your best buddy!”

July 12: “I’ve had this little guy for over 7 months now. Damon needs someone who can be patient with him. He’s still a little growly and nippy when meeting new people; Damon needs that special person to be his best friend and help keep him out of situations uncomfortable for him. When there are guests over, we recommend putting him in his kennel or in another room..that would be best for him…less stressful and also safer for company.

“Damon is a little sweetheart, he loves to cuddle give kisses and watch tv with me. He gets attached to his person and won’t let anyone else touch him…He is a one-person dog!”

“Damon loves to be outside in the sunshine, resting on the deck watching for squirrels and birds. We now have a rabbit that has dug a hole under our fence and dares to come in our fenced in area with 4 dogs…so far he’s still around. He’s one lucky rabbit and Damon wants to be one lucky dog. Damon is waiting for that special someone to give him a home.”

Gideon

Neutered Male
Breed: Pit Bull Terrier Mix
Age: 1.5 Years
Size: Medium, 45 pounds
Adoption Donation: $180 (applicable sales tax included)

Important Information: Gideon is good with other dogs but not good with kids.

Volunteer Feedback:
July 11: “Gideon spent most of the day at my home on a break from the shelter…and we had so much fun! He was a complete gentleman and enjoyed romping in the backyard with stuffed toys.To say he looked ‘joyous’ is an understatement. After playing, I brought him into our small walk in shower and gave him a bath, including his face and head, and he was calm and quiet. Gideon really seemed to actually like being brushed too.

“Since Gideon is afraid of men, I had him in a kennel when my husband came home and Gideon just quietly observed him without barking. Slow intros to men are necessary for some rescue dogs like Gideon (who probably have good reasons for their fears). I am so hopeful Gideon will soon get a foster or forever person or family, but until he does I hope to take him on more outings and expose him to lots of nice men. Love this guy.”

March 1: “Gideon is such a sweetheart! We love having him as part of our family! He loves to cuddle and relax, but also has a playful side. He enjoys running around with our dog in the backyard. Gideon does well on a leash for walks and sleeps great in his kennel. He also does a great job in the car…doesn’t make a peep and usually sleeps! Gideon is fully potty trained and stands by the back door to let us know that he needs to relieve himself. He does well with female dogs but seems to not favor other male dogs. He can be resource aggressive; in a multi-dog home, I recommend feeding them separately. As an only dog, I truly believe he would be the best dog ever! Gideon just wants all of the love.

“He can also be shy around Human males and tends to gravitate towards females. Total ladies man! However, with time, Gideon warms up. Gideon listens to commands well and would be easily trained. He would be a great addition to a loving and special family. We will be a little sad to see him go, but very happy to find Gideon his forever family!”
