The Cake

Determine Your Budget

Decide how much money you’re willing to spend before you go cake shopping. Figure out which bakeries are above your price range and which ones make the cut, and stick to those you know you can afford.

Order Early

Order your dessert 9-12 months before your wedding day. Bakeries get booked fast, and you don’t want to miss out on your number one choice because you didn’t call soon enough and give your baker enough notice.

Commit to a Style

Are you interested in a more traditional cake, like a tiered cake? Or are you interested in something more casual or experimental, like cupcakes? This decision may affect which bakery you choose, so consider a style early.

Ask If the Bakery Delivers

If you’re ordering a stacked-up cake, picking it up from the bakery yourself is probably not your best option. Ask if your baker delivers, and he or she can stack up your cake on site.

Decide How Your Dessert Will Be Served

Will you have a buffet dinner where guests will pick up their dessert? Or will you have a sit down dinner with a waitstaff? If your baker delivers, this will affect placement, so be sure to keep your baker in the loop.
