Mike and Tasha Barrett live in their West Fargo home with three daughters, Hayley (16), Emma (10) and Anna (6). They are a beautifully blended family, sharing time with their oldest daughter with her father and step-mother in Fargo. With Mike being a Senior Escalation Engineer at Microsoft, Tasha a realtor at Park Co. Realtors and the three kids all active in school and extracurriculars, this quintet stays busy!
Favorite way to get energy out, for both you and the kids?
What are some tips for surviving a work/life balance?
Don’t forget to take care of yourself, and try to keep it fun. Even when work is hectic, remember to prioritize the family as well.
What is a local family-friendly event you look forward to?
We enjoy the street fair every year because of all the booths and amenities. It has great entertainment and food. We also really enjoy the downtown Red River Market.
What are your favorite ways to take care of yourself?
A manicure/pedicure always makes me feel spoiled.
How have you seen your parenting change over the years/age ranges of your children?
As our girls grow older, we are trying to find the right way to let them assert their own independence. They are growing so fast. But an added benefit of older children is no more diapers!
What’s a fun weekend local getaway you love?
We love to do family trips to the cities to visit various attractions like Vikings games, Mall of America, Valley Fair and the Science Museum.
What’s your favorite way to treat yourself as a parent?
Elite Therapeutic Massage! Shelle is amazing. I (Tasha) also love spending time with my friends. I have been in a coffee group that meets every week for the last eight years. These friendships allow me time to step out of the mom role and focus on me.
What are your favorite things to do as a family in the winter?
Go to the movies, watch family movies at home, take part in Girl Scouts (including selling cookies and pinewood derby). Our girls are also in dance so we spend many weekends traveling to their competitions.
